About National Youth Conference - 2019
It changes things. Think about it for a second. An unplugged lamp is nothing but a decoration. Plug it in and “boom!”, it lights up the room. A cell phone with no charge is nothing but a paperweight. If charged, it has a million different uses and possibilities. A coffee pot with no power is nothing but a disappointment in the morning. Plug it in and it has the ability to create a magical potion that increases productivity and brings great joy. Power gives the lamp, the cell phone, and the coffee pot the ability to do what they were created to do.
Power changes things! It’s so sad to look around and see so many “Christians” living a powerless life. Like an unplugged lamp they aren’t bringing the light of Christ into the world. Like a cell phone with no charge they are not being used by God. Like a coffee pot with no power they are not bringing the joy of Christ into the lives of the people they do life with.
Acts 1:8 ESV
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
Jesus told his followers that they would be people of power. Having received power from the Holy Spirit we too should be changed. When Jesus says we will receive “power” when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, he is telling us that we will receive the strength and ability to do what he’s called us to do. Internalize that. Through HIS POWER we are capable of doing everything that Christ has created us to do (Ephesians 2:10).
So when Jesus tells us something crazy like we will be his witnesses “to the end of the earth,” we know we will be by the power of the Holy Spirit. When Paul tells us the fruits of the Spirit we are to bear in Galatians 5, we know we can do it by the power of the Holy Spirit. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we are changed! We are EMPOWERED by the Holy Spirit to be world changers and difference makers. We don’t have to settle for being a decoration, a paper weight, or a disappointment because we are empowered by the Holy Spirit and that changes everything.
This year at NYC we are going to challenge every student to quit settling for living a powerless life and start plugging in to the power that Jesus Christ died to connect us to! I believe that if a group of students leave NYC EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT your church, your community, and our world may never be the same.
I hope that your students will join us for this life-changing weekend!
Grace and Peace,
